Luke 18:1-8
We've reached the second week of our journey. For the next seven days, we are going to hone in on different spiritual disciplines that will help us keep God first in 2024.
The first discipline is prayer.
Prayer is simply talking with God. There is no wrong way to pray, and you can never pray too much. In the passage you just read, Jesus tells a parable about a persistent widow. In the story, the woman keeps asking the judge for justice. She goes back day after day, and eventually, the judge grants her what she asks for.
It's a strange story with a simple takeaway. While setting up the story, Luke tells us the call to action, “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up” (Luke 18:1).
This parable can be difficult to understand. As imperfect, finite humans, we get angry when someone asks us for something over and over again. But not God. God wants you to keep asking. He wants you to keep praying with persistence. Never stop praying. Never give up hope.
What are three things you want to pray for consistently in 2024?
1.
2.
3.
Take a moment and pray through each item on the list.
Prayer
Father, thank you for caring more about this list than I do. This year, I want to be consistent in praying for each of these three items. I want to surrender each of them to you daily and trust your plan for my life. This year, teach me how to pray without ceasing by returning to this list daily. In Jesus' name, Amen.
